LGBTQ+ Practice Certification for Therapists | Proud Practice
Eric Sullivan Eric Sullivan
Proud Practice Certification

Make your practice the one LGBTQ+ clients trust on sight.

The training, the confidence, and the cred to back it up.

I know you want to do better.

You wouldn't be here if you weren't already an ally. The question isn't whether you mean it. It's whether your practice shows it.

Because Queer clients vet you before we ever book. We scan your site. We ask around — because the healthcare system has failed us enough times to make us cautious. We need more than "affirming" on a homepage. We need proof.

Your practice can be the one that has it.

Eric Sullivan
What it is

A credential that actually means something.

Most LGBTQ+ certifications are CEU packages with a certificate at the end. This isn't that.

Proud Practice Certification is for your whole practice — not a credential you hang on one therapist's wall. Solo or group, virtual or in-person, established or just getting going. It scales to where you are.

You'll train your full team, hand off your intake and policies for me to rewrite, land a public directory listing, and earn a website badge that links back to your verified status.

It's not a one-and-done. The credential stays current because the work does.

What's included

Skim everything else. Read this.

Each piece makes your practice genuinely safer for Queer clients. All nine together make your practice impossible to overlook.

Done for you

The active work I do for your practice.

01

Full Team Training

The whole team trained — live, in one session, by me — clinicians and admin.

The LGBTQ+ Core Clinical Training delivered live to your full team. Language, identity, intake, the clinical lens — all of it.

Your team levels up together.

02

Forms & Policies, Handled

Hand me your paperwork. Get it back ready for Queer clients to read.

Send me your intake and policies. I rewrite the sections that aren't landing for Queer clients, and hand you a national LGBTQ+ referral list to start.

You don't touch a doc. I do them.

03

Live Case Consultation

Real-time clinical guidance on actual cases — yours or anonymized examples.

A dedicated session with me on your real cases. You bring the questions; I bring 16 years of LGBTQ+ training.

One per practice location, included.

Ongoing support

The structures that keep the work going.

04

Your LGBTQ+ Staff Advocate

Delegate the cert work to one person. Keep running the practice.

We'll pick one person on your team to lead it. I also set up a client feedback channel that routes to your advocate, cc'd to me.

Delegate like a Boss.

05

Cohort Office Hours

Live group sessions with me, open every week of your cert window.

A weekly hour for you and your advocate to come find me. Bring the cert questions, the paperwork friction, whatever's stuck.

Drop in when you need to.

06

Community Space

An ongoing space for cert-holders to stay connected and stay sharp.

A dedicated community for Proud Practice-certified practices. Ask questions, share what's working, swap referrals with peers.

Cert-holders refer to cert-holders.

Visible proof

What your clients actually see.

07

Gender-Affirming Template

A ready-to-send referral letter for clients who need gender-affirming care.

Based on WPATH standards. Written by me, used by you — the language, the clinical justification, the format providers expect.

One less thing your practice drafts from scratch.

08

Public Directory Listing

Your practice, listed where LGBTQ+ clients are actually looking for help.

A spot in the Proud Practice directory. Founding cohort practices get a permanent designation as one of the first.

Clients find you. You don't have to find them.

09

Certification Badge

Proof of the work — something you can put anywhere clients see you.

A Proud Practice badge for your website, office, email signature, socials, Psychology Today. Wherever you want.

Plus a printed version, shipped for your office.

Proof clients can see.

Eric Sullivan, founder of Proud Practice
Hi, I'm Eric (he/him)

I've been training therapists on this for 16 years.

I changed my whole life to do this work. Hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and my cardigan to get a master's in LGBTQ+ Clinical Psychology, did my clinical training at the LA LGBT Center (the world's largest provider of LGBTQ+ services), and have spent the 16 years since translating my super-niche education into something every therapist can actually use.

That's the real work — taking the deep clinical stuff and making it land for the practice owner who didn't have access to any of it. That's why I created Proud Practice. And it's what certification is built on.

What it takes

The path to certified.

The work is real. The path is clear. Here's what gets you there.

01 / Pick your champion

Choose your LGBTQ+ Staff Advocate.

  • One team member to run point on certification and keep being the go-to for LGBTQ+ client feedback after
02 / Roll out training

Get everyone trained.

  • Your full team completes the LGBTQ+ Core Clinical Training (or verified equivalent)
03 / Done for you

I tighten up your forms and policies.

  • I provide a complete nondiscrimination policy you can put in place immediately
  • I rewrite your intake forms — replacing the sections that aren't landing for Queer clients with versions that do
04 / Welcoming environment

Make sure your space signals safety.

  • Visible LGBTQ+ affirmation in your physical or virtual space
  • Chosen names and pronouns reflected everywhere they show up across your practice systems
05 / Stay close to the community

Show up where Queer folks actually are.

  • Build out your LGBTQ+ provider and community referral list (a national list is provided to start you off)
  • Show up where the community is — a Pride drag brunch, a local LGBTQ+ org's fundraiser, a community bookstore reading, a Queer art opening. Whatever's actually happening near you. The point isn't checking a box. It's staying close to the people you serve.
  • Feedback channel built in. Your advocate handles it. I'm there when bigger ruptures need real repair.
Founding Cohort · June 2026

Get certified during Pride Month launch. Lock in founding cohort perks for life.

This is the cohort that helps build it. You'll be in on the ground floor of the program — shaping how the certification grows, what it becomes, and how it ends up looking for everyone who comes after you. Your name lives in the directory as a founder. Your renewal rate stays locked at the founding price forever. And the perks below? You'll be the only ones who get them.

  • Launch pricing on the certification
  • Lifetime founding renewal rate
  • Practice readiness review built into onboarding
  • You shape what this becomes for practices that come after
  • First access to anything new I launch under Proud Practice
  • Custom Pride Month announcement asset for your launch
  • Public thank-you by name when the directory goes live
  • Founding cohort designation on your directory listing

Cohort format

Built around your actual schedule.

You're not putting your practice on hold to get certified. You'll see clients, run your business, and earn the credential — all at the same time. The cohort moves with your schedule, not the other way around.

  • Cohort window A 4-week window from training to certified, with shared community space throughout.
  • Training Live, delivered to your full team. Cert requires live training so everyone gets the same session, the same Q&A, the same shared context.
  • Practice review Send me your intake, policies, and forms. I review, revise, and send your versions back. You don't touch a doc.
  • Office hours Live group office hours during the cohort window. Practice owners and Staff Advocates are both welcome.
  • Email access Direct email access to me throughout the cohort for questions that come up between sessions.
  • Final review I review your final state and issue the credential, badge, and directory listing.

Queer-, BIPOC-, or women-owned practice? On our discovery call together, I'll ask if any of those apply to you. You say yup, 15% off the cert, done.

Annual recertification is $397/year — and founding cohort practices lock in that rate for life.

Founding Cohort

Honestly, I've been bugging Eric to bring this program to our community for years — so joining the founding cohort feels like a long time coming, and we couldn't be more excited. We are so excited to build something really intentional — a place where our LGBTQ+ community can easily find us and learn about who we are. As a team of allies and community members, we can't wait to pour into this work and create the kind of space where every Queer person can walk in and immediately feel it — not just safe, but truly welcome.

It has been a pleasure to work with Eric on a number of LGBTQ+ educational and advocacy events. He's not only an expert in the field, he is approachable and his teaching and speaking style meets people where they are at and invites them into conversation. His open and gracious spirit isn't always found in this line of work and I know it's part of what makes him so successful at what he does.

FAQ

You might be wondering.

  • Yes. Queer-, BIPOC-, and/or women-owned practices receive 15% off certification. On our discovery call together, I'll ask if any of those apply to you. You say yup, 15% off, done — same way I'd want practices showing up for Queer clients before being asked.

  • Maybe, maybe not — and that's a real question worth asking. Certification is for practices that want a credential to back up the work they're doing (or starting to do), and want a public way to show it. If you're confident your practice is already there, the discovery call is the right place to talk it through. I'll be honest with you about whether certification adds value for your specific situation.

  • Sure can — training is sold separately on the training page. A lot of practices start there. Then once you've taken it and started thinking about everything else (your forms, your team, your public proof), you'll want the cert. Training teaches you. Certification proves it.

  • Light maintenance, not a full redo. You stay connected to the work, complete a brief annual check-in, renew your community participation, and complete a continued training component to stay current with the field. Annual recertification is $397/year — and founding cohort practices lock in that rate for life.

  • As fast or as relaxed as you want. You can knock it out quickly if you and your team move quickly. The 4-week cohort window gives you cadence and shared community space. Plus your LGBTQ+ Staff Advocate is doing the heavy lifting with you (because we practice owners love a good delegation, am I right?), so it's not all on you. The credential is yours either way.

  • You continue until you're certified. The 4 weeks is the cohort cadence; your completion is the actual goal. The review tells you what to update, not whether you fail. Nobody pays for certification and gets left behind.

Your therapy practice's full Queer glow-up.

Become the practice Queer clients walk into and exhale.
